ABOUT US

Co-founders Charlie Miller and Jeremy Hubball have been friends since high school. Although their lives have taken different paths, they each bring a proven commitment to education, a concern for the plight of children, a history of community service, and a fascination with South East Asia and Africa. Based on these commonalities and the opportunity to combine their complementary talents for business, teaching, and philanthropy, they developed the idea for an international social service project. In 2005, The Children's Initiative was established to improve the health and education of children in resource-starved communities in Southeast Asia and Africa where our efforts have the greatest impact.

The Children's Initiative ("TCI") is incorporated as a not-for-profit entity with 501(c)3 status. Serving as the catalyst and funding source, we maximize results by matching our resources with the very best local human capital. Our mission is to establish sustainable programs that enable impoverished children to reach their potential and lead healthy, productive lives.

We are currently focused on helping children in Yen Tien and Catdang Village in northern Vietnam, and in Mekelle, Ethiopia, where dedicated people have demonstrated commitment, integrity, and success in addressing the needs of children. As resources allow, we plan to broaden our efforts to help children in additional villages and orphanages where our approach makes the difference.

Catdang: Charlie and Jeremy were most recently in Catdang in February 2006 to identify the needs and complete preparations for TCI's first Catdang PROJECTS, PROGRAMS, and PLANS that are now underway. We have designated Lien Phuong, a university teacher based in Hanoi, as TCI's in-country Director, and have established working partnerships with effective local individuals and organizations.

Mekelle: Our Ethiopian connection stems from Charlie's experience with The Blind Boarding School in Mekelle, and TCI Board member Randy Knight's medical assistance to the AHOPE Orphanage in Addis Ababa in 2005 and the Hope Community Services Orphanage in Mekelle in 2006. PROJECTS, PROGRAMS, and PLANS.

Here in the United States, TCI will rely on volunteers, while in Vietnam, Ethiopia and elsewhere, we will collaborate with capable and dedicated professionals who are in a position to make things happen. In addition, we have assembled a strong Board of Directors (WHO WE ARE) that brings a variety of talents, perspectives and capabilities to the mission.
